A bag prepared in advance brings peace of mind: when labour begins, you can simply take it and go. It is best to have everything ready by 36 weeks.

For the baby
WHO's minimum birth planning list includes clean cloths to dry and wrap the baby. In practice, you will usually need:
- Newborn diapers
- Bodysuits or vests and a hat
- Clean cloths or swaddles
- Blanket or going-home outfit appropriate for the season
- Group 0+ car seat for the trip home
At home for the return
- Safe sleep space for the baby, with no pillows or loose items inside
- Basic clothes for the first weeks
- Care essentials: wipes or cotton pads, baby cream
Tip
Check your hospital or birth centre's list because requirements vary. Keep the bag visible and show your family where it is.
This is a general list. Adapt it to your hospital or birth centre and season.
