Cycle without ovulation

Cycle without ovulation: possible causes and when to worry

Sometimes a cycle can happen without ovulation. This is called an anovulatory cycle. A single episode may be normal, especially during stress, illness, or major routine changes.

Possible signs:

  • irregular cycle length;
  • unusually light or heavy bleeding;
  • no usual ovulation symptoms;
  • unstable basal temperature pattern.

Potential causes:

  • chronic stress;
  • sharp weight changes;
  • thyroid issues;
  • PCOS;
  • postpartum period or hormonal contraception withdrawal.

If this happens frequently, it is better to consult a doctor and check hormones.
